Week 38 - Cold Front

The Artic Blast made its way to Louisiana and we saw temperatures in the teens. Temperatures I used to feel daily living in Chicago but that now take my breathe away. Apparently my body has reacclimated to the cloying humidity and now I’m ready to hibernate when it hits the 30s. To say that I was over prepared for 3 days of lower than normal temperatures would be putting it mildly. Blankets were purchased, multiple soups were made, King Cake from Manny Randazzos, and wine, so much wine. We cranked that fire and I read books and it was lovely. I was happy, my Northern husband was happy, the Siberians Husky was happy. The Southern children however, were less than thrilled. Although school was canceled so it wasn’t all tears. I did my duty to warn folks about snuggling too close in the cold, we will know who listened in about 9 months.

I missed the cold so much and I wish I could’ve enjoyed more of it except I became sick so slowly over the course of several days that I was bed bound. I consumed so many medications and cough syrups I fear I will require detox. I’ve been so immobile that my Apple watch is concerned if I’m alive. I will need to rehab myself to get back to functioning condition. Of course all of this affected my planned content filming. Taking a break is one thing, having to take a forced pause is quite another. C’est la vie.

As annoying as this is, I’m just going to restart. The beauty of restarts and refreshes is that they can just happen whenever you want or need them to. It doesn’t have to be Monday or January or the 1st of anything, it can just be whenever you want it to be.

  • The Crown (Season 6) - The first half of the season was very well done. Elizabeth Debicki was gorgeous. I really loved this series start to finish and I’m sad it’s come to an end.

American Nightmare (Netflix) - The levels of anger I felt watching the documentary. What that couple went through is absolutely insane. What a miracle they are alive and free and have been able to build a beautiful family together. I am exactly ZERO% shocked that a female detective was the one to figure it out. Of course. Obviously.

Jack Reacher (Season 2) - I really enjoyed meeting the whole crew and getting some more of the backstory. One episode in particular was really impactful and powerful. However, one must really suspend their sense of reality to play along with the finale. Be GENEROUS with that suspension! But it is a fun time nevertheless!

  • All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham - This is the second book I’ve read from this author and I wasn’t disappointed! I went through it fast desperate to find out what happened to baby Mason!

The Other Mothers by Katherine Faulkner - Another second! I really enjoyed this one as well. I liked how it was told from both Tash and Sophies perspective counting down to what happened. Really enjoyed the twists.

  • I didn’t listen to much as I was unconscious most of the week.

    DeuxU Podcast - Permanent plug

  • Creamy White Chicken Chili by Half Baked Harvest - So good for the cold weather. So easy and quick to make and my kids love it.

  • Threshold Microplush Bed Blanket from Target! - With the cold coming in I wanted to cozy up the house. I already have a throw and blanket for my bed but I had to get more for my boys bunk beds.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
