Week 30 - Thanksgiving

Tuesday my children and I picked up my mother from the airport. We had a lovely lunch at Picnic, Provisions and Whiskey, one of my favorite NOLA spots. Wednesday, my procrastination caught up with me and I grocery shopped with the rest of the last minute warriors.

Thanksgiving Day itself was relatively quiet. I woke up early for the first time and made our pumpkin french toast and bacon so that I could actually sit and enjoy the parade. The problem of course was that I was falling asleep by the time my beloved Rockettes were on the screen. I did rally and danced along as I do every year to the simultaneous delight and embarrassment of my children. My energy spent, I took a much needed nap and woke up ready to tackle dinner. We put cranberry BBQ meatballs in the crockpot, got the turkey in the oven, and began prepping all our sides. My mom made a new mac and cheese recipe she found and it was so delicious I will now demand it every year. Our full menu for those interested:

Appetizer: Cranberry BBQ Meatballs, Deviled Eggs, White Cheddar Cranberry Dip and Crostini

Main: Turkey Breast

Sides: Corn Pudding, 4 Cheese Mac & Cheese, French Onion Scalloped Potato Casserole, Cornbread Dressing, Sister Schubert Biscuits, Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Dessert: Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Pie

Black Friday we stayed home. The deals just aren’t the same anymore. I can find better deals online (sometimes) most stores have been holding Black Friday sales for weeks advertising whopping 15%-30% discounts. It’s shameful. Email me when yall are serious.

Saturday was a bigger affair. We had our monthly Family Dinner: Thanksgiving Edition. Everybody brought their leftovers and we just had a spread. For cocktails we had Vanilla Maple Bourbon Old Fashioneds and everyone was quite thankful indeed.

We celebrated a birthday with the best chocolate cake from Albertsons. We played a competitive round of Battleship with boys and with that I retired to bed to recover from a whirlwind week.

How was yall’s Thanksgiving?

  • Trying to catch up with The Kardashians. I’m not sure how I got so far behind.

The Morning Show on AppleTV - trying to finally finish season 3.

Barbie Movie - Rented and watched with my husband. He loved it!

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Pt 1 - We weren’t able to make it to the theaters for this one so we rented at home. I absolutely loved it. So very well done, the stunts are incredible as always, and now it’s an excruciating wait for Pt 2.

  • Anon Pls by DeuxMoi - I finally got around to reading Anon Pls and I read this book in an afternoon. I got pulled in and invested so fast. Fun, immersive read for DeuxMoi fans. I had fun recognizing and piecing the blind items together.

  • Dark House Podcast - Despite the fact that we are deep into November I decided. to go ahead and finishing off Dark House with the Waco Season Finale episodes. I was too young to remember Waco in real time and I’ve never done a deep dive. I really appreciate the care and research the girls put into their work. I love that we got to have longer episodes for Season 3 and now I have to wait monnttthhhs for Season 4.

    DeuxU Podcast - Permanent plug!

  • I did indeed pull together a feast and a leftovers potluck for family dinner two days later. Our combined menu was as follows:

Appetizers - White Cheddar Cranberry Dip, BBQ Cranberry Meatballs, Deviled Eggs, Pinwheels, and Pepper Jelly, Cream Cheese & Crackers.

Mains - Turkey Breast and Ham

Sides - Caramelized Onion Scalloped Potatoes, Homemade Mac and Cheese (mom), Homemade Cranberry Sauce, Corn Pudding, Cornbread Dressing and Sister Schubert Biscuits

Dessert - Pumpkin Pie as made by Trader Joe’s. We also had chocolate birthday cake at family dinner.

  • Anthropologie Haul - In my bow era. I have a problem.

    Pearl Bow Earrings in Pearl

Satin Bow Hair Barrette in Ivory

Crystal Bow Barrettes in Black Motif

Why would I plan ahead? That’s something smart people would do.
