Week 24 - A Haunting
This week I got crafty. No, I still haven’t found a proper thrifted painting for the ghost challenge, this was something else. I worked on a different Halloween project I’d been meaning to do which led me to thinking about the 3 phases of every DIY project. The first step is always the scariest. The fear about whether or not you’re making a mistake and forging ahead anyway. The panic when you’re halfway through and you’re terrified that you have indeed made a huge mistake but the only way to know for absolute certain is to press forward and see it through to the end. Luckily for me, this time it turned out okay.

Somehow I found myself out at the swamp for a haunted hike because they had snake and alligators and also candy stations, what more could any child want? Mosquito spray is the answer. With summer in the rearview, all her accoutrement has been more or less set aside and the bug spray was completely forgotten about. A mistake, dear reader, that shan’t be repeated again.

There’s so much coming up over the next couple of weeks! Some fun Halloween adventures, another family dinner, our fall family photoshoot, and the big day itself. Fall is my absolute favorite season, hands down. Has been my whole life. I’m hoping time will do an impossible thing and slow down but I won’t be holding my breath. The days are long and the years are short they say. They, whoever they are, are right. It was just September and now it’s already mid-October and it doesn’t let up. Thanksgiving and Christmas come barreling in right after. I just want to bottle time or at the very least slow it and that as it turns out, is impossible. I will just have to learn to slow myself.

The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix - Have mercy. Mike Flanagan doesn’t make bad horror, he just doesn’t. I love his returning cast of characters including his beautiful wife Kate Siegel who never misses. I am absolutely obsessed with Carla Gugino in this one. She gets to play all these wildly different characters in one show in a tremendous display of acting. So much fun for her!!! Also no one does a jump scare like Flanagan. They are never cheap or overdone. They’re handled so well and when you least expect them. He’s also mastered the art of the subtle background scare which in my opinion are even creepier. Love, love, love. Well worth the wait.

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill. I love the way this is written going back and forth between the “book” and the correspondence with Leo. Super engaging, reads very fast, and I’m desperate to find out what happens.

Dark House Podcast - Slowly working my way through these on my walks. This week I’ve listened to the Ackley House, 10050 Cielo Drive, and the bonus interview with Scott Michaels, the Celebrity Death Historian. When he described all the tragedy that’s happened in Benedict Canyon and how close it all was to each other, my jaw was on the floor.
DeuxU Podcast - Permenantly plug. Y’all know I listen to this every week.

Chipotle Chicken Queso Chili by Half Baked Harvest. I just made this for the first time and it’s an instant classic. So rich and creamy and spicy. Perfectly warming for fall and winter. This one will definitely be making an appearance at family dinner.

Started ordering and putting together Halloween costumes!
Ordered more pieces for our fall family photoshoot. There’s always a tiny fear when you order something online, whether it will fit or not, or look flattering but my fingers are crossed.
