Week 10 - Hanging Ten

No one is more surprised than me that I’ve made it a full 10 weeks chasing my nonsense dream of being a haphazard, albeit beloved, mega influencer. I went viral on the Tok once and somehow gathered 10.2K likes. I’ve picked up a handful of new followers on the Gram and Facebook is just beginning to learn my name. I vow weekly to do something about Youtube Shorts and weekly I forget.

I’m having so much fun with the creative process. I enjoy brainstorming ideas, filming, and all the laughs with my husband. It’s interesting how some days it feels like walking through mud. Filming is a mess, I don’t feel funny and wind up recording 65 takes. On other days I can crank it out like it’s nothing, sometimes spending 2-3 minutes on a video. Both will perform the same. I am still actively trying to break out of 200 view jail on the Tok. Trying to figure out the right formula for success: story telling, skits, trending songs and viral sounds, what the right post time is, having the right hooks. It’s a lot and at times overwhelming but I try to stay in my own lane and not compare myself to others, especially those who’ve been at it for years. In other news, one of the reels I posted to the Gram got more views than any of the other ones I’ve posted so far but then Threads came out who know how that has or hasn’t affected engagement. I like to think I’m slowly but surely recovering from being in their jail.

Speaking of Threads! It’s so nice to have a real Twitter alternative. I missed the conversations and community that format brings. It’s only been a couple of days but the energy is just different. I hope it lasts.

Looking ahead (besides my neverending promises about Youtube and a newsletter) I’m going to try to add in some blog posts that provide actually useful content. I’ve got a handful of real recipes to share, I want evangelize about family dinner, and I have thoughts about what you should wear to your family photoshoots, I’ve ordered a whole bunch of stuff so I’ll maybe be doing unboxings and and try-ons.

Trying to wring out all the last bit of fun out of summer before school starts back up again. What’s left on your summer bucket list?

  • Taking Care of Maya on Netflix - This was absolutely insane. This poor family has suffered so much all the way around.

The Ashley Madison Affair on Hulu. When I tell you these hired actors who performed real clients testimonials were GIVING. Just incredible.

Hijack on AppleTV. I would follow Idris Elba down any rabbit hole and watch him narrate an instruction manual, I really, really would but lucky for me this is an incredible show. I was out of breath and gasped at the last scene of the most recent episode and pitched a full fit when I found out it was week by week format and I had to wait til Wednesday.

  • Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty. Yes I know. I’ve been reading this book for weeks BUT I feel like I’ve crossed some imaginary threshold where I’m hooked and I just want to blaze through it but life, kids, and sleep are still a thing. Hoping I’ll finish this week.

  • DeuxMoi (latest) and Maintenance Phase (Pilates) Podcasts. I alternate between the two when I’m out on my long walks. I’m sure this says something about me but I don’t know what.

  • Caprese Chicken Pasta Salad by Half Baked Harvest. This is mine and my families most favorite summer past salad. It cannot be beat. We’ve made it 50 times at least.

Bruschetta! This is my summer Saturday meal. This and a glass of wine and maybe some fruit.

Skillet Creamed Street Corn Chicken by Half Baked Harvest. Made this for the first time this weekend and it was a huge hit. My family absolutely loved it.

  • …everything that isn’t nailed down. I can go weeks without buying much and then BAM! I’ll take one of everything.

    Nordstrom Rack Haul

    Hanna Andersson Haul

    Banana/Gap Haul

    Yeti Mini Haul

I just bet you’ve never seen an influencer make a cup of coffee before.
